The Importance of SPF & Reapplying

SPF is an essential addition to your skincare regimen - all year round! It works by blocking harmful UVA and UVB rays that can damage your skin and lead to premature ageing & sun damage. This can happen even on cloudy days, so you don’t need to wait for the sun to pack on your SPF.

Sculpted SPF Products

What is SPF?

The letters SPF stand for Sun Factor Protection and it is available in 2 forms, chemical and mineral. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays when they hit the skin whereas Mineral sunscreen uses a physical barrier such as Zinc Oxide or Titanium Oxide to reflect the sun’s rays away from the skin’s surface. The good news is that both chemical and mineral sunscreens protect against both UVA & UVB rays 🙌🏼

Choosing the right factor for you depends on how often you can reapply your sunscreen. SPFs come in various strengths such as SPF 20, SPF 30 & SPF 50. The number indicates how well it prevents sun damage. All of these are effective once they are applied correctly. We recommended following the 2 Finger Rule when applying your SPF. Cover two of your fingers from the crease of your palm to your fingertips and apply all over your face, this should be enough to protect your skin! Be sure to reapply your SPF every 2 hours to maintain protection

What are UV rays?

Let's go back to basics  - There are two types of UV rays that are harmful to the skin, UVA & UVB. UVA rays have long wavelengths and are what cause the skin to age whereas UVB rays have shorter wavelengths and affect the top layers of the skin, causing what we know to be sunburn ☀️

How can I reapply my SPF if  I’m wearing makeup?

Need an easy way to top up your SPF? Then say hello to Sun Mist. As makeup lovers we know it can be tricky to do this without disturbing your makeup - that’s why we have created Sun Mist, our SPF 50 spray. This can be used under or over makeup to refresh, hydrate and protect the skin!

Sun Mist won’t disturb your makeup, it leaves no colour residue and no sticky tacky feeling either like a lot of SPFs can do. Sun Mist is gentle on the skin, it refreshes and protects simultaneously and it is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores.

Top Tip - Reapply your Sun Mist Spray every 2 hours over makeup to maintain your sun protection  🙌🏼

You can also add SPF into your routine with your makeup, but when doing this you MUST remember that two-finger rule to ensure you are covered.

Second Skin Foundation

As the SPF in makeup products is mixed with other ingredients that give coverage and colour, we always advise using a stand-alone SPF under your makeup to ensure maximum protection. However, there is something comforting about knowing your makeup also contains SPF, that’s why we added SPF30 to our tinted moisturiser, Tint & Glow. SPF 50 to our Second Skin Medium Coverage  Foundation and of course we couldn’t forget the importance of protecting our lips either, which is why we added SPF25 to our HydraLip Tinted balm.

Final Word

With Sculpted, it couldn’t be easier to keep your skin protected while maintaining a flawless base. Try them out and your skin will thank you later 💖

Whatever the occasion, whatever the weather, start each day with some SPF. It’s the oldest anti-ageing trick in the book.
